Welcome to “Preparing for your UPLIZNA® infusion”—your video guide to understanding the UPLIZNA® treatment process.

In this video, we will walk you step-by-step through what your day might look like when receiving your UPLIZNA® treatment.

To ensure you feel supported throughout your treatment, we offer TranscendRare®, a comprehensive patient support program designed to help you along your UPLIZNA® infusion journey.

UPLIZNA® is used to treat adults with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) who are anti-aquaporin-4 immunoglobulin G (AQP4-IgG) seropositive.

UPLIZNA® is administered as an IV, also known as intravenous infusion. This means that UPLIZNA® will be given to you through a needle placed in your arm.

Since UPLIZNA® is an infusion medicine, it will need to be administered by a trained healthcare professional at the specialized infusion clinic.

Your infusions can be in a private or a group setting. The infusion rooms vary across the country and can have one or multiple chairs.

Your UPLIZNA® infusions will follow a precise schedule that will be coordinated by TranscendRare®. That way you can plan ahead for your infusion days. Your first 2 doses of UPLIZNA® will be given 2 weeks apart.

Your next doses of UPLIZNA® will be given as one infusion every six months. It is very important to stick to this infusion schedule—it will help ensure that your treatment works the way it should.

The TranscendRare® Patient Support Program will work with you to schedule and remind you about your UPLIZNA® infusion appointments.

You can also keep track of your appointments with the UPLIZNA® Infusion Tracker that was included in your Starter Kit.

Now that your infusion day is near, here are some helpful tips and tricks to help make the infusion process easier.

Drink plenty of water the day before and the day of your UPLIZNA® infusion. Being well-hydrated will help your infusion nurse find a vein easily and help you feel better during and after your treatment.

Do not forget to fuel your body—eat a nourishing, healthy meal on the day of your infusion.

Also, remember to have a list of all drugs, vitamins, minerals, natural supplements, or alternative medicines you are taking to share with the healthcare professional that will be administering your treatment.

Be sure to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing during your appointment. If you are wearing sleeves, they should roll up easily. We also recommend that you stay warm with lots of layers.

Think about what you would like to have with you during the infusion to help you feel more comfortable, keeping in mind the appointment will last a few hours. Pack these things in a bag the night before your appointment so you are ready to go on the day of.

Bringing a cozy blanket, a sleep mask if you want to rest, a water bottle, entertainment—such as a book or music—and healthy snacks, if allowed, may be helpful.

On the day of your infusion appointment, you will first meet with your healthcare professional at the infusion clinic. This is a great time to ask any questions you might have before you begin your UPLIZNA® treatment.

When you are ready to get started, you can expect your healthcare professional to give you a few medications that can help minimize possible infusion reactions.

Then, you will receive your UPLIZNA® infusion through an IV placed in your arm.

Each UPLIZNA® infusion will last about 90 minutes, so make sure to break out that bag you packed! Having entertainment, like reading your favourite book, listening to an exciting podcast, or watching an episode of the show you love, can help pass the time.

Once your infusion is complete, your healthcare professional will monitor you for about 60 minutes to see how you feel post-treatment.

This is also a great time to ask any questions you may have about your UPLIZNA® treatment.

Like with all treatments, it is possible to develop side effects from UPLIZNA®. Some side effects are a reaction to the infusion.

Tell your healthcare professional right away if you experience headache, nausea, drowsiness, shortness of breath, fever, aches, or other signs and symptoms.

Now that you know about what to expect on the day of your UPLIZNA® treatment, it is also important to know about other possible side effects you may experience.

Side effects seen in patients taking UPLIZNA® include urinary tract infection, common cold, joint pain, upper respiratory tract infection, headache, and back pain.

These are not all the possible side effects you may experience. If you experience any other side effects not discussed today, tell your healthcare professional.
